Our Story

We are Chris and Carolyn. We moved to Ucluelet in the winter of 2019 with an aim to slow down our hectic lives after 17 1/2 years in downtown Toronto raising three children. We sold our narrow, 120 year old row house in the Trinity Bellwoods area of Toronto and purchased a 1960’s house on Marine Drive in Ucluelet overlooking Little Beach Cove. While we loved living in Toronto, our adult children were moving out and our paid employment gigs were no longer producing the joy that they were when we arrived there in 2001. We were not new to Vancouver Island as we spent our early married years in the late 90’s in Victoria, where our two oldest children were born. Carolyn grew up in Victoria in the 60’s and 70’s and Chris spent seven years of his childhood in Nanaimo, so we were not unfamiliar with Vancouver Island and all its beauty. Our master plan was always to move back to the island at some point and it just happened to be now.

The idea of opening a bed and breakfast came from our experience of owning a rental cottage in Ontario on Lake Huron for seven years. We learned all about the vacation rental business from our experience with that cottage. Then while on a summer vacation in 2018, we found our blank canvas in 378 Marine Drive, Ucluelet. Carolyn brought her passion for house design and landscape architecture from Ontario to British Columbia and with the help of many talented local tradespeople the work began in the fall of 2019. The result will be our premium bed and breakfast property set to open in the spring of 2020.

We hope to share the beautiful view we have of the Pacific Ocean with travellers from around the world. Our spacious rooms will all have kitchenettes, gas fireplaces, local art and many west coast accents that will make for a memorable visit to the magnificent west side of Vancouver Island. Tofino and Long Beach are both short drives away. The renowned Wild Pacific Trail is steps away our bed and breakfast.

Cheers! Chris and Carolyn
